A few tips for getting the most out of your trip to Chamonix UCPA:
Do full-time instruction, you will get so much more out of it than half time or none. I am in the expert group as I have skied for years and I loved it, you can always do with a little tightening up on technique plus instructors are open to suggestions, we did alot of off piste and jumps!! 🙂 Consider the Évasion package. You can take trips to Courmayer in Italy and ski in Switzerland.
Consider the l’aiguille de midi vallée blanche. For very competent skiers only. A guide is obligatory. Costs aprox 300 euro but will take up to 6 people so cost can be split. Takes a few hours. Watch videos to see level. Its serious enough. Do the stretching classes in the evening!
Go to an ice hockey match. Chamonix’s local team often have games in the sports centre (5-10 min walk from centre).

What a suprise. Went skiing with my Friends this year and we stayed in the UCPA. Surprisingly it was fantastic. Included in the price was breakfast, dinner , our ski passes our kit rental and a packed lunch for the day. The rooms were spacious and clean and ideal for our group of 6 we were also lucky to get a good view from our room.

Awesome place to stay, wouldn’t change a thing. It was my first time traveling to Europe (I’m from Argentina) to ski, and didn’t know what UCPA was, so I was hesitant. After the first day, I loved UCPA for the 2 consecutive weeks I stayed.
Your week at UCPA: Your week will be divided in 7 days. 4 with instruction, and 3 free (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday). There are 5 levels of ski lessons, and you’ll sign up for it before getting your Skipass. On Monday, all groups will go to the same place, where the instructor will see how you ski, and suggest if you need to go a level lower, or higher. Once the groups are matched, usually by Noon you’ll be with your correct group. After two weeks of full skiing (We didn’t stop on days off), we’ve ended up with a friend who never skied before (And I only had 1 week of skiing of experience before), going down black pistes carefully, and enjoying the most bumpy and hard red pistes at excellent speeds.
Word of advise: WORKOUT your body a lot for a few months before taking the course, otherwise your body will be extremely tired after just 2 days, since you’ll ski for about 6hs a day at least. (I’m a sporty person, who runs nearly 5km per day, 5-6 days a week, and workout at the gym, and by end of week I was tired. By end of week 2, I began falling more because of my muscles being dead.)

Best value for money in the world. It is impossible to find anywhere else where you can get full time instruction, equipment hire, lift passes and full board catering for this price. You can eat as much food here as you want, which is a real plus and it’s good quality.

Awesome Ski Trip. Visited UCPA Chamonix- first time I have stayed but will be back next season. Set in the heart of town a 2 minute walk from the ski bus route. 6 man rooms with a shower – compact – clean and warm. Breakfast is a continental with the ability to make a packed lunch which will save a fortune on the slopes. Cake and drinks available from 1600 when you return. Evening meal is always awesome the chefs do a great spread. There is always evening entertainment which is lively. Boot and ski room are functional. All in all a great find

Off piste ski week. I have just had a super week in Chamonix with the UCPA team. Great food and amazing value – the team were all so helpful. Special mention for our ski instructor and guide, Julien Bach; he provided an excellent week’s skiing, striking the right balance of instruction, safety and adventure. Well done!

Fantastic. Situated close to the centre with a back drop of the Auguille du Midi it is perfectly placed for adventure. Accommodation is clean and the food is great. Lovely bar area and fantastic staff. Couldn’t recommend it more!

Excellent ski value in Chamonix. I have been to UCPA Chamonix in January and really loved the experience. I would go back without hesitation and try to bring friends along. I am from Montreal and wanted to get a taste of skiing in the Alps. The reader of this review must always take into account the price\quality ratio which is excellent at UCPA as it is a non profit organization. Obviously, for the price paid, it can not be a 5 star hotel. If I had not found this place, it is highly probable I would have never gone to Chamonix.
Overall, I was delighted with my stay at UCPA and believe this is a great value. All the staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to help you. I would not hesitate to go back and recommend it.

Excellent experience. This was my second snowboarding holiday with UCPA and it was even better than the first one in Tignes. The hostel is very well organized. My boyfriend and I stayed in a twin room which had a shower, so that was great as we didn’t have to share our shower with anyone. The bedroom was quite spacious and the heating very powerful. The toilets were just a few meters down the corridor, and were cleaned regularly. The common premises were great, the food as absolutely amazing, the chef was a great character and we would come and chat with the guests, ask if we were enjoying the good, etc. He also plays in a band in club nearby and one night he took us all (we were in a group of about 8 people) to the club with him – really great fun.
The instructors were a highlight of the trip. My instructor, Joris, was lovely and really picked up on our mistakes, suggested corrections and gave 1 to 1 attention to each student as he felt that they needed it. I was one of them once and it really made a difference for my progress in snowboarding. I was lucky enough to have Joris as a instructor twice, as he was also the instructor of my group in Tignes, the year before. My boyfriend’s instructor, Julien, was incredibly popular with their group. They all got along really well and Julien even went out to a bar with us and the rest of their group once. The friendliness and competence of the instructors played a big role in the whole experience.
Since we are in the bar subject, let me mention this: The Chambre Neuf apreski was a big highlight of our trip. The band was incredible with a unbelievably good repertory, really upbeat, the atmosphere is amazing, people dancing on the tables etc. We went there 3 or 4 times, and we were not disappointed. The Chambre Neuf is a short walk from UCPA, which is very convenient when you’re coming back tipsy and hungry.
The mountains are beautiful, all sorts of pists for all levels of experience. My favorite is Le Balme. Breath-taking views!
Chamonix on itself is a wonderful place for a holiday. We felt like even if we didn’t have our days packed with snowboarding instructions, we would still have enough to do in the city. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. I even went to a swimming pool nearby. Compared to Tignes, it’s much more fun as there are many more of options of places to go out.
Staying in UCPA in the evenings was also a good option as they had something going on every night (quiz, karaoke, live band, etc) we got to meet a lot of people, which I personally believe makes a big difference in someone’s holiday. When the place where you’re staying allows you to interact with so many like-minded people in that level, you can make friends quite easily and that makes the whole week more enjoyable.
Really good fun, all my boyfriend’s friends who flew all the way from Brazil to Chamonix have also liked it, and we were all impressed with the quality of the food for a hostel. Really great value for money, definitely recommended!
Juliane B – UCPA Chamonix
Good atmosphere. This is a very nice travel concept. UCPA offers a complete ski vacation to a very low price. The rooms are simple but functionally, Breakfast is to simple for me and you make your own lunch bag to eat in the slope, dinner is good! In the price for the vacation everything is included.
Jan D – UCPA Chamonix
The UCPA is run as a not-for-profit organisation, if you want to benefit from the amazing value for money trips that they facilitate then you need to know not to expect a hotel. You need to appreciate that you yourself are part of the concept. By helping out you keep the cost down. If you like to socialise with many people of all age groups, from many different nationalities while trying to learn, improve or just get some coaching then the UCPA concept will square you away.
The instructors love their jobs and will find a way to improve your ability no matter your level or learning speed. They are all really friendly, funny and speak excellent english. Half the rental kit is replaced every year and most of our group ended up with new boots.
This was my 9th UCPA trip and at 31 I was one of the youngest amongst my friends all of whom have no financial need to attend these value trips but I choose to do so because the service, food, instruction, kit, fun and atmosphere are significantly better than any other trip that I’ve paid way more to go on! The UCPA are an absolutely fantastic organisation and I can’t understand how more Brits don’t hear about it? Although I’m happy to keep it a slightly not so well kept secret!
paulriggers – UCPA Chamonix
There’s nothing better than a UCPA holiday. I recently did a week here. For anyone who’s never holidayed with UCPA before, it’s quite unique. The all-inclusive package holiday bundles lodging, full board, equipment hire, all-access ski passes, full-time lessons, transportation and entertainment for one insanely low price. From the moment of arrival, the staff at UCPA made us feel welcome. They were just opening up for the season, so not everything was 100% ready yet. No matter, they got it all organized really quickly.
The dorm rooms at Chamonix are quite spacious. We had a 4-person dorm (check in early to claim a bottom bunk if that’s your preference) with ensuite shower and double sink/vanity area, as well as a nice table and chairs and lockers for our stuff. Toilets are shared for each floor and are kept very clean. The rooms are very clean and *warm*, which is nice when you’ve been skiing in the cold all day. I was lucky in that I didn’t have any loud partiers in my room, but that can happen, so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.
Don’t expect five-star luxury; UCPA is hostel-style accommodation in a nonprofit centre. You’ll be asked to take care of your own clean-up. But if you’re the kind of person who loves to ski or snowboard, enjoys meeting new people and socializing, and likes doing all of it on a shoestring, then this is exactly the kind of holiday for you. Would I stay again? In a heartbeat!
segacs – UCPA Chamonix
Another Great UCPA. Thought I should write a review having stayed here twice in a row. First time was with friends second time I was alone but this didn’t make a difference, the UCPA is right in the center and has great views of Mont Blanc.
The instructors are fantastic both times fill you with tips and confidence and take you to the best areas. All in all I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but next year i thought i’d try another UCPA in Tignes all booked for Jan 13 and can’t wait.
DannyWooly – UCPA Chamonix
A great place ! As I am a new snowboarder I took advantage of the classes offered by UCPA, done one day as a beginner and then intermediate and by the end of the week I was happy on the red slopes ! Just one thing to mentions, I believe there is a gap between beginner class and intermediate, as the beginner class was to easy for me but the intermediate I had to push myself , overal great coaching !
Accomodation is basic (u dont need more then that as most of the times you r out), clean and very WARM ! Food was briliant, buffet style (don’t expect restaurant level).
On top of all this U get a great location, bus pass, all the gear + drying room, a coach which will take u everywhere, ski pass for nearly the whole valley including Aquille du midi, Mer de Glace and a great week ! Definitely will use UCPA again.
Raymond-cet – UCPA Chamonix
Fantastic place to be for winter activities. I just got back from UCPA Chamonix. Firstly, the pricing is really reasonable. Food was great!! The staffs were friendly and most importantly, the snowboarding instructor was really patient with the beginners. It is a brilliant place to be. The resort is situated at the town. Therefore, at night, one can wander around the town. Can’t wait to go back soon!!
Paul Riggers – UCPA Chamonix
Best place to be in Chamonix ! I spent Christmas there with 30 friends. Everything was awesome. The staff is super friendly and the place has a nice buzz. It’s also a great place to meet people from other countries. The food is excellent. We enjoyed the dancing, karaoke, board games, quizzes… The ski instructors are amazing ! We also got passes which gave us unlimited access to the cable cars and the train. The receptionist even helped us to get a paragliding session. If I had to describe my stay in one word,I would say – Memorable ! Oh n btw – They speak English, which is quite a relief !

What a week! Last January I went to UCPA Chamonix with 3 mates for a weeks skiing. I didnt know what to expect but we were very happy with the excellent value for the all inclusive trip! The hostel is a great base with 4 people to a room in bunk beds and balconies. More than comfortable with loads of hot water for showers and the rooms were clean. The equipment is great and the lessons/ski experience is world class. We met loads of people who we are still friends with and had amazing skiing, especially at Le Tour (Domaine de Balme). If you want an amazing, fun and exciting skiing trip to the best ski resort in the world then go here!
Bezthespaniard – UCPA Chamonix
A Really central location with fantastic people. Went to cham with a large group, so good i have re-booked this year. The food was great as were the staff. The rooms are a little cramped for spare space as we had bed bunks. This is not a problem as there are bars etc. Perfect compared to my experiance of large chalets. It is a hostel but of the best variety (friendly and lots to do). It is right in the center of town and far cheaper than any of the hotels that offer a simlar level of service.
Simon W – UCPA Chamonix
Can’t wait to go back. Anyone thinking along similar lines need not worry, The UCPA is a friendly, clean, place with really helpful staff, great food and is just a stones throw away from the town centre for all your beer needs. We met alot of nice people there, we are still friends with and will hopefully go snowboarding again with at some stage. The instructors are patient and not afraid to push you to your limits so if you’ve never been snowboarding before I’d recommend you armour up. Once we can agree on a date to go again we’ll be there.
Mark D – UCPA Chamonix
A fantastic place. I had fantastic skiing! We had a twin room which is great but you pay a bit more for it. The atmosphere in the centre is wonderful and I was very impressed with the ski and equipment we were issued. the meals were amazing and we didn’t eat out once as we were so impressed with the standard. You do serve your self and clear your own table, you will also have to clean and hoover your room after your stay.
The staff were fine with leaving bags before and after check in.
Steve B – UCPA Argentiere
If you want to improve your boarding/skiing, this is the place! If you just want to do some hardcore snowboarding or skiing then this is the place. As everyone else has said rooms and food are basic but perfectly adequate. They even provide you with food for you to take with you for lunch. You could probably go on a UCPA holiday and not spend a penny!
I shared a room with 3 other English guys (by the sound of it they try to room solo travellers with people of their own nationality) but the majority of people their spoke English. It’s mainly English, French and Swedish. I was a little hesitant as had never gone on this type of holiday, and have done hardly any hostelling or backpacking, (I think I stayed in a hostel for 1 night in NYC prior to this) but everyone is there for the same thing though, the snow, so you all have something in common.
I was told the Argentiere is more for the people who just want to board/ski, (although the bar was still packed most nights), and the Chamonix venue tended to be a younger crowd who liked visitng the bars and clubs of Chamonix (from Argentiere you can get the bus and night bus to/from Chamonix, and people did!). Don’t get me wrong, I like to do that too but I was exhausted after every day. I’m a fit guy, I’m a triathlete and had a week of boarding under my belt already this year but the course was hard work. The snow wasn’t perfect so that made it a bit more challenging but I was surprised how tired I was and was glad it wasn’t frowned upon to be in bed by 9pm!
All in all this was a great holiday. If, like me, you’re concerned about sharing with strangers, especially if you’re a light sleeper too, don’t. Bring some ear plugs and an eye mask and you’ll be fine. The people on the course, including your guide (Boris was great!) will become friends, there’s plenty to eat and all kinds of varieties and you’ll sleep soundly through the night through exhaustion or alcohol
Dan C – UCPA Argentiere
Off-piste in the Chamonix Valley. Great value, lovely staff, fantastic skiing! You can’t beat UCPA for it’s affordable and philanthropic concept. The whole principle is based on making outdoor activities accessible for all and they certainly do that. Argentière UCPA is my favourite UCPA and this was my third time back. For off piste and back country skiing, it doesn’t get much better. For the off-piste course you also get a mountain guide and not just an instructor – so you can go anywhere.
UCPA is not for you if: you don’t like youth hostels, you want brand new ski/board hire, you don’t want to have to clean your room at the end of your stay, you don’t like basic (but plentiful) French cuisine. It is for you if: you want to meet other, like-minded people, have an inclusive holiday with no hidden extras (ski pass included!) and want to push yourself (they have a great selection of courses from beginner to gnarley free-rider).
I’m already planning for next year…
Hartoflead – UCPA Argentiere
Highly recommended, amazing fun. If you’re starting out or you’re pretty experienced, the UCPA is a great place to stay. They provide fantastic accommodation (dorm or private room) , awesome food, great equipment and the staff, instructors and guide are very experienced and good fun. Argentiere is a good location, sleepily village in the chamonix valley higher up. Access to so many slopes and off piste. We were fortunate for great snow. The centre provide you with a train pass that enables you to get about especially into chamonix. Can’t rate this UCPA high enough
Mtoko – UCPA Argentiere
Amazing ski trip experience. I can’t ask for a better way to end my 2016. UCPA is a nonprofit with incredibly friendly staff and visitors. Highly recommended! The lodging is very high quality here. Clean, modern and functional. You will have a great time!
Eva L – UCPA Argentiere
Fantastic Ski Trip. The UCPA staff; reception, the kitchen, bar, instructors and entertainment team make Argentiere UCPA centre a soulful and warm place. I enjoyed each day, found the instruction to be professional; I learnt a lot. Really great UCPA Centre.
Laura A – UCPA Argentiere
Perfect for the skier interested in skiing. All you need for a ski trip- clean good room, good food, nice staff, humorous friends.
Daniel H – UCPA Argentiere
Good and plentiful food, helpful staff, comfortable and clean rooms, decent equipment. Really enjoyed our stay. Paid extra for a twin room which was well worth it. View of Mont Blanc from our window. Loved the food, it was great being provided with provisions for lunch. The sauna, stretching room and climbing room were all really appreciated perks. Clean communal toilets and showers. Take flip flops. Wifi reception was very poor. Good location for the bus and train and for the lifts to the grand montets ski area. Several excellent ski shops, bars and cafes nearby.
Nico S – UCPA Argentiere
A fun trip where everything went smooth! Perfect. Went on my first trip with UCPA and it happend to be to Argentiére for some skiing. I must say that even though there were many people arriving and staying at the center (about 300) during the week and all either skiing or snowboarding everything worked. The center is well planned for all the visitors. The whole hotel is recently renovated and very nice. Not luxorius but clean and tidy. The staff are very friendly and some of the guides are really awsome.
I had the privilege to get a guide named Didier as instructor and boy am I glad. He was straight through happy, very educational and gave objective criticism. But most importantly he gave every single on of the ten of us in our group equally as much attention and teaching.
I can absolutely recommend everyone thinking about going with UCPA to Argentiére to GO FOR IT! You wont regret it.
David_sweden_84 – UCPA Argentiere
All you need for Ski!! The toilets and showers on our floor (3) were always accessible and always spotlessly clean!
The food is very good for what you pay. It vary’s from night to night what you get, some nights I wasn’t too impressed, but 5 out of 7 nights was good food! With the salad bar and cheese never disappointing. Great choice of desserts and ice cream! It’s functional and serves the purpose of feeding everyone before/or after their day on the slopes. They provide you with a good packed lunch you make yourself in the morning and you’ll never go hungry as you can eat/take as much as you want.
This place does what it sets out to do,gives you a place to sleep, feeds you, gives you ski gear, passes and instructing and a place to meet new people.
It was great value for money, and we had a great time!! 😀 highly recommend to anyone.. Singles or a range of ski abilities as there are groups to suit everyone and everyone really friendly. Will probably return here next year!
Hannah – UCPA Argentiere
Great place for a snow holiday. Will definitely stay with the UCPA again as it’s always a great environment and good way to socialise with different Europeans!
Pete C – UCPA Argentiere
Super équipe!
Didier – UCPA Val d’Isere
Had a fantastic stay with really sweet riding, pretty decent accommodation at the centre (food is nice, centre itself might feel a tad old) and an awesome guide that combined really good lessons with taking us to the less populated parts of the system so we could enjoy the riding to 100%. Will go again!
Peter – UCPA Val d’Isere
Très bonne première expérience à l ucpa, bonne ambiance au centre , nourriture très correcte , cours de snow hors-piste très intéressant , moniteur au top et très rassurant , il nous a bien fait sortir de notre zone de confort , on se reverra certainement
Geoffrey Delas Gracias-Aguado – UCPA Val d’Isere
UCPA Val d’Isere is one of my favourite locations. The instructors are fantastic and lots of fun. The location is very close to town centre so perfect for apres and of course the skiing is amazing
Dani Orosa – UCPA Val d’Isere
Excellent instructors and staff but the accomodation is not ok. The centre needs an upgrade like the one done in Tignes.
Torbjörn Andersson – UCPA Val d’Isere
The best guides, great food and nice people, just a few steps from fantastic mountains. With the upcoming renovation of the centre it will be just about perfect.
Fabian Rimfors – UCPA Val d’Isere
Thomas – UCPA Val d’Isere
Thanks to all UCPA employees/kitchen staff that made the past 6 days possible and enjoyable!
Lastly thanks to everyone else for making this the best UCPA experience I’ve ever had!
Ng Kee Wen – UCPA Serre Chevalier

Super semaine du Nouvel An passée à l’UCPA Serre-Che.
One of the best ski trip I have had 🙂 amazing people and professional instructors 🙂 We did freeride week with Max and he managed to do something new and different every single day, to find powder in the end of March, to pass through amazing isolated valleys. The center is renovated, just next to the slopes. In the center of the village so everything is reachable in 10 min. Just great! Thank you all
Denitsa – UCPA Tignes
Karine Dgr – UCPA Tignes
Stayed in a 4 man room. Really helpful staff and the food was nice throughout the week with the option to have a pack meal for lunch. There’s no laundry and you pay for credit on a payment card to use at the bar. WIFI is free bit is a bit hot and miss a times. Ski kit for hire at the UCPA centre again the staff was helpful as it was my first time skiing! Great times will do it again!!!
Mark Harris – UCPA Tignes
Great guides, good value for the money.
Daniel – UCPA Tignes
Je recommande à fond! Super semaine, super stage, super ambiance, super guides, super repas, super tout!!!
Virginie Gervaise – UCPA Tignes
Super place to stay, eat and do lessons/be guided. Brilliant staff throughout the centre to keep it clean and maintained (Elise, Monique and co.), keep the guests fed (Eric, Yvos and friends) and entertained (Jess and Robin), deal with all queries (Laurie, Amaleline and Jerome) and top calibre instruction and guiding (Tristan, Paul, Jiris and co.). See you again UCPA Chamonix!!
Alan Dorgan – UCPA Tignes
Laurence Costa – UCPA Tignes
I spend an amazing week, you have everything you need … everything was perfect – staff very helpful & friendly, snow guides, very good and healthy food, very close to Grand montets and free bus transfer to the other pistes … all was perfect!! Will be back there for sure!!! Cheerzz to the UCPA ArgentiereTeam

Un séjour fantastique du début à la fin. Grand merci à mes moniteurs François, Yann et Fabien pour sa patience et sympathie et merci aussi aux skiman de l’skishop pour leur travail et les mots d’encouragement dans le panneau. Encore grand, grand, grand merci. Bien sûr que je reviendrai!!! À bientôt!!

Nathalie Cordier – UCPA Les 2 Alpes
Très bonnes semaines passées aux 2 alpes. A 2 reprises et à chaque fois pas déçue du séjour 😊 Je recommande si vous voulez passer des vacances au top
Florine Bernier – UCPA Les 2 Alpes
As ever the UCPA in Deux Alpes meets all the expectations of other UCPA centres. This a smaller centre which means less queuing for gear, food and of course the bar! Food is varied and plentiful. Good guides and instruction from the instructors.
Deux Alpes is a big resort, the centre is in the far end in Venosc, near the le doable chair lift so pretty easy approach to the slopes. We stayed in the separate annex which good to be away from the hustle and bustle. 5 stars!
Mtoko – UCPA Les 2 Alpes
Pros: Beginners classes, Yuanne our instructor, the very tasty food at every meal, the cheeses at every meal, the friendliness of everyone we met, the sauna, the ski equipment, the view from the room, the snow, the location next to a SPAR that sells 4euro wine.
Cons: Double room is still bunks. The dancefloor was a throwback to the early 2000’s. That’s it though!
Emily B – UCPA Les 2 Alpes
Well positioned centre, lovely staff and instructors and absolutely fantastic value for money, sleeping is 4 to a room with bunk beds, tight on space but still ok. All in all a brilliant week in Jan 2015 and going again Jan 2016. A budget orientated ski centre designed for what is important, which is getting on the slopes at a minimum cost. Food couldn’t be faulted, ski equipment was up to date and in perfect condition. For anyone who wants the comfort of a 5 star hotel then I would advise them to book into a 5 star hotel, for those who want a fantastic week at minimum expense then book one of many UCPA centres in the Alps.
frankmc798 – UCPA Les 2 Alpes
Excellent. Stayed here for 6 nights in january with a group, the rooms were small but done the job, bunk bed style. Couldnt fault the food, excellent selection at both breakfast and dinner time, never had lunch as was on the Piste all day, has a small bar, fusball table, and small stage / dancefloor for evening music etc. The ski equipment provided was first class, well maintained. Situated in a fantastic resort aswell, loads of bars clubs ect as you would expect and small take aways, patteseries, and crepe shops.
The ski resort itself was great, been across europe and this offered some great runs for all levels and an excellent wee snowpark aswell

Excellent budget ski holiday. If you are on a budget a UCPA hostel/hotel is the only way. The food is amazing and there is loads of it. The staff are excellent, generally with a good level of English. The tuition quality is mixed, it really depends which instructor you get. At L2D there is a nice sauna and hot tub ( charged extra) . The resort is busy, with plenty of good bars. There is loads of groomed piste, up to 3600m, which is suitable for all levels.
